Annual Boiler Service in Wilmslow With Practical Efficiency Advice

A recent annual boiler service in Wilmslow gave our team the opportunity to inspect the customer’s heating system, complete all necessary safety and performance checks, and follow up on some practical efficiency advice provided during the previous year’s visit.

The property is heated by an Ideal Vogue System 26 boiler, paired with an Ideal unvented hot water cylinder. Both systems were inspected as part of the appointment and found to be operating safely and correctly.

The Heating System

The customer’s heating and hot water system includes:

What Work Was Carried Out?

We completed a thorough annual service of the boiler and checked the wider operation of the heating system.

• Checking the expansion vessel pressure

• Testing the system pressure

Following Up on Previous Efficiency Advice

During the customer’s previous annual boiler service, we discussed the central heating flow temperature and how a small adjustment could potentially help the boiler operate more efficiently.

With the customer’s approval, the flow temperature was reduced by 5°C.

Modern condensing boilers are generally able to operate more efficiently when the heating flow temperature is set appropriately. Reducing the temperature can help the boiler spend more time in condensing mode, allowing it to recover more heat from the gases produced during operation.

However, any adjustment must still allow the heating system to warm the property properly and maintain a comfortable indoor temperature.

The Results One Year Later

When we returned for the customer’s next annual service, we were able to ask how the heating system had performed following the adjustment.

The customer reported that:

The Ideal Vogue System 26 boiler and unvented hot water cylinder were both found to be in good working order. The annual service was completed successfully, with all safety, performance and operating checks producing satisfactory results.

The customer also confirmed that the 5°C reduction in their central heating flow temperature had not affected the comfort of their home and had contributed to a slight reduction in their gas bills.
